The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) South South Zonal Working Committee has dissolved the caretaker committee led by Dr. Tony Aziegbemi in Edo State. In its place, Mr. Nosa Ogieva has been appointed as the new chairman, with Chief Sunny Okomayin serving as vice-chairman, and Hillary Otsu remaining as the state secretary.

The move comes as part of a broader restructuring within the party. The South South zonal leadership has also disbanded the PDP State Working Committee in Bayelsa, appointing interim leaders for both states for a three-month term.

A statement issued by Prince Etim Isong, the PDP South South Zonal Publicity Secretary, outlined the new appointments for Edo State. Alongside Ogieva, the committee includes Nosa Iseleomon as Vice Chairman, South; Ehisota Oriakhi as Vice Chairman, Central; and Richard Ehimigbai as Vice Chairman, North. Other key roles include Mrs. Tes Sorae as Woman Leader, Benjamin Ehinlebodiaye as Treasurer, and Emma Akhaba as Auditor.

The statement detailed that the decision to dissolve both the Edo and Bayelsa committees was based on issues of gross misconduct, poor performance in the last governorship election, and mishandling of internal party crises. These actions were deemed violations of the PDP’s constitution, prompting the South South Zonal Working Committee to take decisive steps for the party’s future stability.

The restructuring aims to strengthen the party’s foundation in both states. The PDP’s Zonal Committee hopes this move will foster effective leadership and provide a fresh start for the party, allowing for unity and discipline within the organisation.

Additionally, the new Bayelsa State Caretaker Committee has been established with George Turnah, MON, appointed as Caretaker Chairman. Other members of the committee include Tony Gabriel as Deputy Chairman and Ebilade Ekerefe as Secretary, among several others.
