His Royal Majesty, Omo N’Oba N’Edo, Uku Akpolokpolo Ewuare II, CFR, the Oba of Benin, has approved the appointment of new traditional heads for two communities under the Ologbo Dukedom in Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area of Edo State.
The revered monarch confirmed the appointment of Pa. John Obasuyi as the Odionwere (village head) of Imasabor Community and Pa. Ikpomwonsa Omorodion* as the Odionwere of Oghobaye Community. Their appointments were formally announced at an enlarged meeting of community elders at the Oba’s palace in Benin.
The announcement was made by Chief Uyi Okungbowa, the Ogua of Benin, who was joined by Chief Isaac Oghafua Oyeoba, the Oyeoba of Benin. During the gathering, Mr. Uhunoma Igbinigie and Mr. Omoregie Omoruyi were also publicly affirmed as the Okaigheles (youth leaders) of Imasabor and Oghobaye Communities respectively.
In line with Oba Ewuare’s directive, the two communities rolled out drums in celebration over the weekend as they held traditional ceremonies to install their new leaders. In Imasabor, the second most senior elder, *Pa. Samuel Edogun*—the community’s Ozukpogieva—led the new Odionwere, Pa. Obasuyi, and other elders to the Ogua’edion (Elders’ Chamber), where they voluntarily observed the necessary traditional rites.
Speaking during the event, Pa. John Obasuyi and Okaighele Uhunoma Igbinigie appealed to elders and youths for support and prayers to enable them to lead with wisdom and integrity.
In Oghobaye, the newly installed Odionwere, Pa. Ikpomwonsa Omorodion, also presented Omoregie Omoruyi as his Okaighele. The pair offered prayers for divine and ancestral guidance, seeking peace, unity, and progress for their community. Supporting the new leadership, the community’s Ozukpogieva, Pa. Friday Tony Aghahowa, pledged to work closely with the Odionwere to promote development and communal harmony.
The installation ceremonies were witnessed by dignitaries, including Chief Emmanuel Iyase, the Okao Eguae of both Ologbo and Ehor Dukedoms, who expressed gratitude to the Oba of Benin for his approval of the appointments.
Chief Iyase particularly commended the Oba for his unwavering commitment to justice and for restoring the ancestral rights of Pa. Omorodion, who had previously been denied installation by the now-suspended Duke of Ologbo.
The new appointments are seen as part of the Oba’s broader efforts to strengthen traditional governance and restore order in the Benin Kingdom’s various communities.
