Barely days after stepping down as National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje has been appointed Chairman of the Board of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Ganduje, a former Governor of Kano State, had announced his resignation from the party leadership on health grounds. However, his swift return to public service has raised eyebrows and stirred political commentary across the country.

His latest appointment was officially disclosed during the inauguration of the newly constituted FAAN board in Abuja, where members were formally briefed on their mandate to reposition the nation’s aviation sector.

Though no official statement has been issued by the Presidency, sources within the Ministry of Aviation described Ganduje’s appointment as “a move aimed at injecting political experience and administrative leadership into the agency’s oversight body.”

This development comes amid ongoing discussions around the recycling of political figures within federal appointments, especially those who have recently left one public office only to be named to another shortly thereafter.

Ganduje’s role as FAAN Board Chairman places him at the helm of an agency responsible for managing Nigeria’s airports and ensuring regulatory compliance across the aviation industry. It remains to be seen how his leadership style, forged in the political arena, will influence operations within a highly technical and strategic sector.

Reactions have been mixed, with some commentators questioning the sincerity of his health-related resignation from the APC, while others argue that his experience in governance could prove valuable in improving aviation infrastructure and policy direction.

The appointment adds to the list of high-profile political figures in President Tinubu’s government who have been repositioned into key federal boards and agencies.
