The Member representing Oredo West Constituency at the Edo State House of Assembly, Dr Richard Osaro Edosa, has called on Nigerians at home and abroad to embrace unity and peaceful co-existence as the nation marks its 65th Independence Anniversary.

Dr Edosa, who is also the Deputy Chief Whip of the House, made the charge during the Independence Day celebration organised by the Edo State chapter of the International Friendship League (IFL) with the theme: “Beyond Independence: Living in True Freedom.”

In a statement issued by his media team on Thursday, the lawmaker said the theme was a timely reminder of Nigeria’s long journey as a people and the work still needed to achieve true freedom.

Dr Edosa, who joined the IFL in celebrating the nation’s milestone, reaffirmed his commitment to people-centred representation, grassroots empowerment, and policies that deepen democracy.

He stressed that Nigeria’s destiny could only be fulfilled through faith, resilience, and collective action, urging citizens to remain resolute in strengthening the bonds that hold the country together.
