Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has been re-elected as Governor of Anambra State after a sweeping victory in Saturday’s governorship election.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Soludo winner on Sunday after collating results from all 21 local government areas of the State.
According to the State Collation Officer and Vice Chancellor of the University of Benin, Prof. Edogah Omoregie, Soludo polled 422,664 votes, leaving his closest rival, Nicholas Ukachukwu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), a distant second with 99,445 votes. The African Democratic Congress (ADC) followed with 8,208 votes, while the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) secured 1,401 votes.
INEC reported that a total of 584,054 votes were cast across Anambra’s 21 local councils. The electoral process was largely peaceful, with high voter turnout recorded in several areas.
The declaration sparked jubilation in Awka and other parts of the state, as APGA supporters poured into the streets celebrating what they described as a reaffirmation of public confidence in Soludo’s leadership.
Reacting shortly after his victory, Soludo thanked the people of Anambra for their overwhelming support and promised to consolidate on his administration’s development strides.
“This victory belongs to every Anambra person who believes in the vision of a prosperous, secure, and United State,” he said. “We will redouble our efforts to build a greater future for all.”
Soludo, a former Central Bank of Nigeria Governor, first assumed office in March 2022. His re-election extends APGA’s hold on Anambra State, a stronghold the party has maintained for over a decade.
