A dramatic robbery attempt in Minna, Niger State, took an unexpected turn on Friday when a bank customer fought back against armed robbers, disarmed one of them and shot a member of the gang during a struggle. The footage was sighted by Uptown Press on Facebook.
The incident occurred along Shiroro Road near Iya-Femi Restaurant in Minna shortly after the victim reportedly withdrew ₦10 million from a bank.
Security sources said the armed gang trailed the customer from the bank before intercepting his Toyota Camry along the busy road.
The robbers allegedly fired gunshots into the air to intimidate passers-by and ordered the victim to surrender the cash.
However, the man resisted and engaged one of the attackers in a fierce struggle, during which he successfully snatched an AK-47 rifle from the suspect.
Further details obtained by this online newspaper reveal that the victim managed to fire the weapon during the confrontation, hitting one of the robbers and forcing the gang into panic.
The attackers quickly fled the scene but escaped with the victim’s Toyota Camry, which reportedly contained the ₦10 million withdrawn from the bank.
In their hurried escape, the suspects abandoned their own getaway vehicle, a Toyota Corolla, at the scene.
The spokesperson for the Nigeria Police Force in the state, Wasiu Abiodun, confirmed the incident, stating that officers recovered the abandoned vehicle and the rifle used during the attack.
According to him, the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation.
Police authorities said efforts are ongoing to track down the fleeing suspects and recover the stolen cash as investigations continue.
