The Bauchi State Government has distributed 186 vehicles to traditional rulers across the state as part of efforts to strengthen grassroots governance and traditional institutions.
Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed presided over the ceremony on Monday, describing traditional rulers as custodians of culture, peace, and community leadership in the state.
According to the governor, the vehicles distributed include:
14 GMC vehicles
14 Toyota Hilux trucks
14 buses
144 Toyota Camry cars allocated mainly to district heads
He explained that the vehicles were provided to enhance mobility, improve service delivery, and strengthen communication between government and grassroots communities.
In addition to the vehicle distribution, the Bauchi State Government also commenced construction of new palaces for traditional rulers, aimed at improving their working environment and boosting traditional leadership structures across the state.
Governor Mohammed noted that the initiative forms part of his administration’s broader plan to empower traditional institutions, promote peace, and accelerate development at the community level.
The governor further emphasized that traditional rulers remain critical partners in maintaining security, resolving community disputes, and supporting government policies at the grassroots.
The development has sparked reactions from residents, with supporters praising the move as a step toward strengthening local governance, while critics questioned the timing and cost amid economic hardship.
