President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed his Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, and Special Adviser on Political Matters, Ibrahim Masari, to supervise the All Progressives Congress (APC) primaries for National Assembly seats ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The move is aimed at ensuring transparency, internal democracy, and credibility in the selection of candidates for both the Senate and House of Representatives.

Under the arrangement, the duo will coordinate with APC governors, the party’s National Working Committee (NWC), and leadership of the National Assembly to monitor the conduct of the primaries and ensure adherence to due process.

They are also expected to provide regular feedback to the President while helping to manage conflicts and promote peaceful conduct during the exercise nationwide.

Despite their supervisory role, the APC National Secretariat will retain its constitutional responsibility of organising and conducting the primaries in line with the Electoral Act and party guidelines.

The development comes amid growing political activities and consultations within the ruling party as it prepares for the 2027 elections, with stakeholders pushing for a transparent and inclusive primary process.
