The Managing Director of the Edo State Waste Management Board, Amb. Dr. Lucky Enehita-Inegbenehi, have received a delegation from the Centre for Clinical Care and Clinical Research Nigeria (CCCRN) for talks aimed at improving healthcare waste management in the State.
In his remarks, Dr. Enehita-Inegbenehi outlined the state’s existing waste management framework, highlighting the use of structured segregation with colour-coded roller bins. He noted that red bins are designated for highly infectious and medical waste in line with standard safety protocols.
He further disclosed that the state government currently operates several functional dumpsites equipped with modern waste management facilities to ensure efficient disposal and environmental safety.
The CCCRN team, led by Director of Compliance, Titilayo Adeleye Akande, said the visit was to explore a partnership with the board on medical waste segregation and broader healthcare waste management practices. The organization also expressed its intention to collaborate closely with the Edo State Ministry of Health.
Akande in response, outlined plans to provide technical guidance, training, and the registration of scavengers to promote sanitary waste handling. They also requested the deployment of two board officials, one each from the Compliance and Operations departments, to support joint field engagements.
As part of the visit, the joint team inspected waste management practices at the Edo State Ministry of Health and key health facilities, including Edo State Central Hospital. They were accompanied by Compliance Department officer Uzoma Chinelo Joy of the state waste management board. During the assessment, CCCRN official Mr. Chima urged improved standards in waste bagging to enhance safety and hygiene.
The collaboration is expected to strengthen capacity, improve compliance, and ensure safer disposal of medical waste across Edo State health facilities.
