As part of its Corporate Social Responsibility to make health care available to Afemai and Edo North residents in general, the Edo State University, Uzairue, Etsako West Local Government of Edo State in collaboration with Auchi Central Hospital, Auchi has successfully flagged off the first phase of the 2nd Medical Sciences Free Medical Outreach in twelve communities in the senatorial district.
Starting 31st May, 2021, through Saturday 5th June, 2021. The Free Medical Outreach will host health professionals, staff such as Doctors, Nurses, Surgeon, Pharmacists and others performing free medical consultation, gynecology checkups, health education and advisory.
It is designed for residents with medical or surgical needs irrespective of their social- political leaning.
Speaking at the event, Edo State deputy governor, Mr Philip Shaibu who was represented by the immediate past Etsako East Council Chairperson, Mrs. Benedicta Ebuehi thanked the organisers of the event.
She noted that the Edo State University has been at the forefront of specialist healthcare and has contributed immensely to the healthcare need of Edo North people.
She said: “My own mother has been hypertensive since 1983 and we have been managing her health by visiting the Irrua Specialist Hospital not minding the risk involved including security.
“I will be happy now to inform her that instead of going to Irrua, she can now go to Auchi Central Hospital for medical care. The high point of today’s event is the awareness that comes through the flag off ceremony- that people can now go to Auchi Central Hospital where they can get specialist treatment with about twenty-four specialist doctors on ground to attend to them.”
She said healthcare is a major agenda of Edo State government especially Edo North people because this is the deputy governor’s constituency.
” When his people are healthy, when his people are happy, when his people are accomplished. Then, you can say the deputy governor is accomplished.”
She promised to convey to the government all issues raised at the event and assure that the needful will be done.
Also speaking at the event, the Vice Chancellor, Edo University, Uzairue, Professor Emmanuel Aluyor stated that the Free Medical Outreach is part of the University’s Corporate Social Responsibility to give back to the society and communities in Edo State, free, quality and accessible medical healthcare and also to creat awareness for the Central Hospital Auchi as a Teaching Facility for Edo State University, Uzairue Medical College.
While thanking the State government for continuous support, the Vice-chancellor solicited government’s speedy completion of the University in order to meetup with the demands of training students.
Speaking to newsmen, Founder Dako Foundation for Rural Health Care and Education, Dr. Dako Mamudu said that the launching of the Free Medical Outreach will bring in over a hundred experts in healthcare delivery which will have a positive impact in the health of the people.
According to him, the target is good healthcare to the people both primary, secondary and tertiary healthcare delivery.
He advised the people to collaborate with the foundation by contributing physically, financially, mentally and otherwise.
The deputy governor seized the opportunity to take a tour of the Auchi Central Hospital and commissioned some projects done by the Edo University, Uzairue such as the newly renovated and extension mortuary and the Histopathology Laboratory Complex.
The Chief Medical Director of the hospital, Dr. Mrs Imoisili Udoka expressed gratitude regarding the partnership with the Edo State University, Uzairue.
She described it as a golden opportunity that won’t be let go.
She, however, expressed optimism that some of the challenges facing the hospital such as the Central laboratory, Theatre, Accident and Emergency Unit, Paediatric session that need to be upgraded will be attended to in no distant time.
