The Edo State Police Command has announced the deployment of 6,000 personnel across the state ahead of the Eid-el-Kabir celebration to guarantee maximum security and prevent criminal activities.
The Command said the massive security operation was approved by the Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika, in collaboration with other sister security agencies.
According to a statement issued on Tuesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, Eno Ikoedem, operatives drawn from tactical units, the Police Mobile Force, State Intelligence Department (SID), Explosives Ordinance Devices (EOD), and other operational formations have been strategically stationed across Eid prayer grounds, recreational centres, highways, markets, motor parks, and other public places.
The Command said the deployment was aimed at intensifying visibility policing, intelligence gathering, surveillance operations, and strategic patrols before, during, and after the festivities.
The police also issued a stern warning to criminal elements to stay away from the state, stressing that operatives had been fully mobilised to decisively deal with anyone attempting to threaten public peace and safety.
While congratulating Muslim faithful on the Eid-el-Kabir celebration, Agbonika urged residents to remain vigilant, law-abiding, and security conscious throughout the festive period.
He further appealed to members of the public to promptly report suspicious movements or activities to the nearest police station or other security agencies through the Command’s emergency lines and complaint channels.
“The Edo State Police Command remains committed to sustaining peace, protecting lives and property, and ensuring that all residents celebrate in a secure environment,” the statement added.
