The Association of Proprietors of Private Media Establishments of Nigeria (APPMEN) has applauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for approving the expansion of the Nigerian Army from eight to twelve divisions and the recruitment of 28,000 additional personnel, describing the move as a decisive step towards strengthening national security.
In a statement issued by its National Secretariat, the association said the President’s approval reflects bold leadership and a strategic commitment to overhauling Nigeria’s security architecture to effectively combat the country’s growing security challenges.
APPMEN said the creation of four new Army divisions, including the proposed 83 Division in the South-South with headquarters in Benin City, Edo State, would significantly improve military operations through enhanced intelligence gathering, faster troop deployment and better coordination across the country.
According to the association, the expansion will reinforce the Armed Forces’ capacity to confront terrorism, kidnapping, banditry, armed robbery and other violent crimes threatening national peace and stability.
It further noted that the recruitment of 28,000 additional personnel would strengthen border security, boost internal security operations and improve the Army’s operational effectiveness in restoring lasting peace to troubled regions.
The media proprietors maintained that President Tinubu’s decision aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda by creating a safer environment capable of attracting investment, stimulating economic growth and accelerating national development.
APPMEN also urged Nigerians to support the Armed Forces and other security agencies by providing credible intelligence and cooperating with lawful authorities, stressing that safeguarding the nation is a collective responsibility.
The association reaffirmed its commitment to supporting government initiatives aimed at strengthening security, promoting peace, protecting lives and property, and driving sustainable development across Nigeria.
