An aide to Senate President Godswill Akpabio has broken silence on the controversial visit by his wife, Mrs Ekaette Unoma Akpabio, to the Senate Chamber on Saturday.
The aide explained that Mrs Akpabio’s visit was strictly related to the inspection of faulty equipment and facilities within the Senate Chamber.
According to the aide, the individuals who accompanied the Senate President’s wife were not marabouts, as alleged in some quarters, but engineers, ICT experts and other technical professionals.
The clarification comes amid controversy over Mrs Akpabio’s presence in the Senate Chamber, with questions raised about the purpose of the visit and the identities of those who accompanied her.
The aide maintained that the visit was part of efforts to inspect and assess malfunctioning equipment and facilities, insisting that the technical personnel were present to address issues requiring professional expertise.
The explanation seeks to put the controversy to rest, stressing that the Saturday visit was connected to the inspection of the Senate’s facilities and not any spiritual or ritual activity.
