Motorists in Benin City should prepare for traffic disruptions on Thursday as the Edo State Traffic Control and Management Agency (EDSTMA) announces temporary road closures and diversions ahead of the visit of Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu.

The restrictions will run from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on October 15, 2026, according to a statement by the agency.

The First Lady is expected to commission a fleet of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses acquired by the Edo State Government and participate in an empowerment programme for 5,000 women in the state.

EDSTMA identified Joromi Junction along Ekenwan Road and the Stadium Road–Ekenwan Road junction as the affected locations. Both points will be blocked during the exercise.

To ease movement, motorists travelling from Ekenwan Road towards Ring Road have been advised to divert through College Road.

Vehicles conveying guests and other participants to the official programme are expected to park within the University of Benin (UNIBEN), Ekenwan Campus.

The agency urged motorists to plan their journeys ahead, obey traffic officers and use the designated alternative route to avoid unnecessary delays.

Residents and commuters using the affected roads are advised to allow extra travel time during the 12-hour traffic restriction.
