Edo Council Boss, Imonofi calls for Support for Ex-service men

The Executive Chairman of Etsako West Local Government of Edo State, Alhaji Imonofi Inusa on Friday called on the Federal Government to do more in her capacity to cater for the welbeing of families of deseased men  and women of the Nigerian army who sacrificed their lives in the course of service to the nation to ensure that the unity of this country is not jeopardize.

The Council Boss made this call at the 2021 armed forces remembrance day celebration in commemoration of Nigerian Army’s falling heroes who died in Service.

The Chairman said that, it is only through this gesture by the government can the widows and families of the slain soldiers would have a sense of belonging if their needs are properly taken care of. He advocated insurance cover for Nigeria Army.

According to him: “We called on the attention of the Federal Government to fashion out welfare packages for families of deseased men and women of the Nigeria armed forces with a view to ensuring they are not left to their fate for the demise of their bread winner who died in the line of duty.

“The Federal Government should considered providing insurance policies for members of the armed forces to boost the patriotism of serving officers. This way, we shall be able to build a patriotic society where national interest supersede personal interest.”

The Chairman, however, commended the leadership qualities of governor Obaseki for effective control and management of the Coronavirus pandemic in the State which resulted in low transmission rate.

He said on his part, the Council will continue to do everything in its capacity to support the Ex-service men in the Local Council.

The Chairman of the Nigerian Legion in the Council, Major Abubakar Mohammed thanked the Alhaji Imonofi Inusa, the Chairman of the Council for his moral and financial support towards the legion at the Local Government level since assumption of office.

Armed Forces Day is an annual event to commemorate the service of men and women in the Nigeria armed forces. It is an opportunity for everyone to show support for the men and women who serve in the armed forces community.
