Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, has announced his resignation from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) following the emergence of Atiku Abubakar as the party’s presidential candidate for the 2027 election.

Lawal said he could not remain in the party after the outcome of the presidential primary, which he alleged was manipulated in favour of the former vice president.

According to him, the primary election results were predetermined to ensure Atiku’s emergence, stressing that he would not be part of what he described as a “rigging machine” ahead of the 2027 presidential poll.

The former SGF also launched a scathing attack on Atiku, questioning his competence and suitability for the nation’s highest office.

Lawal further argued that President Bola Tinubu would make a better president than Atiku, maintaining that the former vice president should not be allowed near the presidency.

His resignation is expected to further fuel political debate within opposition circles as preparations for the 2027 general election gather momentum.
