Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has called on President Bola Tinubu to urgently intervene in the rising wave of pre-election violence in the state, warning against a descent into the kind of political crisis that engulfed the South-West in 1983.
Adeleke made the appeal on Monday while addressing supporters at a campaign rally in Olorunda Local Government Area, expressing concern over growing political tensions ahead of the state’s governorship election.
The governor argued that Osun deserves the President’s attention, noting that the Accord Party in the state had already thrown its weight behind Tinubu’s re-election bid for the 2027 presidential election.
According to Adeleke, the endorsement demonstrates goodwill towards the President and should encourage decisive federal action to restore peace and guarantee a violence-free electoral process.
He warned political actors against acts capable of destabilising the state, stressing that Osun must not be allowed to relive the bitter political violence that rocked the South-West during the 1983 crisis.
The governor called on security agencies and all stakeholders to uphold law and order, insisting that democratic contests should be decided through the ballot box rather than intimidation or bloodshed.
His appeal comes amid heightened political activities and increasing concerns over security as preparations gather momentum for the Osun governorship election.
