APC Chieftains Grant Educational Support to Over 60 Children, Empower Women in Edo

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo State has launched an initiative aimed at promoting education and empowering women across the State.

The event, themed “A New Edo Rising,” took place on Monday and was spearheaded by Hon. Omorede Osifo, APC National Deputy Treasurer, alongside Ambassador Western Iyamu, convener of the Diaspora Friends of Senator Monday Okpebholo.

Addressing the gathering, Hon. Omorede emphasised the programme as part of a broader strategy to gain support for the APC candidate in the upcoming September 2024 gubernatorial election.

“We are here to demonstrate what we can do in support of our incoming governor. This empowerment initiative is designed to help women support their children’s education by providing financial assistance to purchase school supplies, thereby easing the economic burden on families,” Omorede said.

She revealed that 60 children were randomly selected to receive ₦20,000 each to assist with school-related expenses.

Hon. Omorede praised Senator Okpebholo, describing him as the “Akpakomessiah”—a compassionate leader committed to the well-being of Edo people.

“He cares about us, and that is why he is investing in our children’s education. We are confident he will do even greater things than former Governor Oshiomhole,” she added.

The empowerment initiative also aims to address the needs of women in the State. “Our women need support, not just for their children but also to put food on the table,” Omorede stated.

She expressed confidence in the APC’s candidate, highlighting his alignment with the party’s agenda to improve education and social welfare.

Consultant Collins Omokaro outlined the APC’s three-point manifesto, focusing on education, health, and social welfare.

He noted that the State’s current healthcare infrastructure is limited and pledged that Senator Okpebholo would prioritise its development if elected.
Additionally, Omokaro announced plans to introduce digital libraries in Edo schools to enhance the learning environment.

Ambassador Western Iyamu, the event’s co-organiser, said the funds used for the program were originally earmarked for campaign materials but were redirected to provide tangible support to those in need.

“We wanted to focus on real empowerment instead of spending on election merchandise like T-shirts and caps,” he explained.

Senator Monday Okpebholo reaffirmed his commitment to addressing the shortage of teachers in Edo State by promising to recruit 5,000 educators to strengthen the sector.

He emphasised his dedication to improving education and alleviating the struggles faced by families and vulnerable communities.

Highlight of the event was the presentation of an award of excellence to Hon. Omorede Osifo for her positive contribution to the development of Africa.
