In a significant development, the Court of Appeal in Abuja has nullified the election of Senator Ishaku Abbo, who represents Adamawa North Senatorial District in the National Assembly.
Abbo, who had won the seat in February 2023 under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has now lost his position, and the court has ruled in favor of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Amos Yohanna.
According to reports, the Court of Appeal’s decision is the outcome of a legal challenge filed by Yohanna, who contested the election results, citing irregularities and non-compliance with electoral laws.
The court found merit in Yohanna’s petition and ordered a re-run of the election in the Adamawa North Senatorial District. The nullification of Abbo’s election is a significant blow to the APC, which has been experiencing internal strife in recent times.
It is also a boost for the PDP, which has been pushing for the cancellation of the election results on the grounds of alleged malpractices.
