On Sunday, the General Superintendent (GS) of the Assemblies of God Church, Nigeria (AG), Rev. Professor Paul Emeka, urged President Bola Tinubu to intensify efforts to address the pressing concerns of Nigerians.
Rev. Emeka made this appeal during a three-day apostolic visit to the church’s central district in Gwarimpa, held in conjunction with the church’s Council Meeting and the International Father’s Day celebration from June 14 to June 16, 2024. This visit marked his first return to the district since its inauguration last year.
The event’s grand finale took place on Sunday at the Assemblies of God Church International Worship Centre in Gwarimpa, Abuja. Themed “The Father’s Blessing,” the gathering featured top church leaders and ambassadors.
A key highlight was the inauguration of five newly elected district presbyters of the Abuja Central District. The newly elected officials are Rev. Emeka Eze (PhD) as District Superintendent, Rev. Emmanuel Omole as Assistant District Superintendent, Rev. Abraham Odey as District Secretary, Rev. Femi Omole as District Treasurer, and Rev. Theophilus Augustine as a member (Presbyter).
During his sermon, Rev. Emeka emphasized the need for church leaders to serve both the church and humanity diligently, describing their election as “God’s choice.” He expressed satisfaction with the vitality of the Gwarimpa branch and its adherence to church doctrine.
In an interview, Rev. Emeka outlined the church’s agenda to promote growth and contribute positively to Nigeria’s development. He explained, “The election process, part of our triennial Council Meeting, aims to advance the gospel and strengthen the church’s role in supporting the government’s efforts.”
Rev. Emeka also reassured Nigerians of divine support while urging the government to respond to the people’s cries. “The government needs to step up as the masses are crying out. We are praying for them, and we urge the government to act in a way that brings smiles to the people’s faces,” he said.
The newly elected District Superintendent, Rev. Emeka Eze, expressed his joy at the GS’s visit, describing Rev. Emeka as a role model who has mentored over 30,000 pastors nationwide.
He pledged to utilize his new position to drive positive change within the church and the country, emphasizing the importance of teaching and mentoring future leaders.
Rev. Eze highlighted the transformative power of the gospel in addressing societal challenges, quoting Proverbs 29:2, “When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice.”
He stressed that righteous leadership, grounded in spiritual principles, is key to resolving the nation’s issues.
