The Federal Polytechnic, Auchi has taken a decisive step in the fight against graft with the inauguration of its Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit (ACTU), established in partnership with the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).
The landmark ceremony, held on Wednesday at the Polytechnic’s main campus, formally integrated the institution into the ICPC’s nationwide network of ACTUs — dedicated watchdogs within public institutions tasked with preventing and exposing corruption.
Representing the Rector, Dr Salisu Shehu Umar, Deputy Rector (Administration), Dr Engr Edith Oyati, praised the Commission’s collaboration and charged the newly appointed members to act with “uncompromising honesty and professionalism”.
ICPC’s Edo State Resident Anti-Corruption Commissioner, Mrs Premo Ayaoge, commended Auchi Polytechnic for “leading by example” in aligning with national reforms. She stressed that the new unit must serve as both a deterrent and corrective force against unethical practices.
Delivering an operational briefing, ICPC official Mr Olalekan Amojo underscored that ACTU members are bound to operate “without fear or favour” and to enforce regulations that leave no room for misconduct.
The ICPC presented statutory documents to the Polytechnic leadership, received by Dr Oyati, while the Unit’s pioneer Chairman, ESV M.M. Oyakhire, pledged unwavering dedication to the mandate. “In solidarity and transparency, we shall succeed,” he declared.
With this launch, Auchi Polytechnic joins the growing list of Nigerian institutions embedding anti-corruption measures at their core, strengthening accountability in higher education and reinforcing public trust.
