The Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) has ended on a positive note on Monday in Edo State. Headteachers, supervisors, and students have praised the hitch-free process.
In Uhunmwode Local Government Area, students were seen jubilating after writing successfully with focus and seriousness. A team of supervisors from the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) and the Local Government Education Secretary ensured a successful examination, free from malpractice.
The Acting Education Secretary of Uhunmwode LGA, Mr. Elvis Ugiagbe, expressed satisfaction with the examination process, calling it the best he has monitored. He commended the government under H.E. Sen. Monday Okpebholo for ensuring a smooth examination.
The Education Secretary advised school heads to maintain the high standard, believing that the students will achieve excellent grades and produce good results.
He said, “So far so good, from all the BECE I have monitored, this one seems to be superb, serene, and orderly. The children conducted themselves in an orderly manner, the supervisors were calm, and the parents were far from the children. So I commend the government of the day for planning this examination. ”
The Principal of Umagba Junior Secondary School, Mrs. Usiobaifo Blessing, expressed satisfaction over the conduct of the examination, describing it as smooth with excellent supervision. She added that the examination materials were complete, with each student receiving one answer booklet and question paper.
The BECE is a crucial assessment for students in Nigeria, particularly those in their final year of Junior Secondary School (JSS 3). It is a standardized test administered by the National Examinations Council (NECO) in Nigeria. It’s designed to evaluate students’ knowledge and skills after completing junior secondary education
The primary purpose of BECE is to qualify students for admission into senior secondary schools or vocational institutions. It’s a significant milestone in a student’s academic journey, marking the transition from JSS 3 to Senior Secondary School.
Some of the subjects tested in BECE include English Language, Mathematics, Basic Science and Technology, and National Values Education, which includes subjects like Civic Education, Social Studies, and Christian/Islamic
The Elective Subjects are Foreign Language (French or Arabic), Nigerian Language (e.g., Edo, Efik, Hausa, Igbo, or Yoruba), Business Studies and History.
Those on the team of the education secretary include Anene I.C., Ozimede Jane, and Omoruyi Paulina. The examination ends in the State on Wednesday,4 June 2025.
