Former presidential aide, Reno Omokri, has stirred debate on social media after declaring that peace and good character are more important in marriage than a woman’s academic qualifications.
In a post that has attracted widespread reactions, Omokri argued that an illiterate woman who brings peace into a man’s life is preferable to a highly educated woman whose behaviour destroys the home.
“An illiterate woman who gives you peace is better than an accomplished PhD lady who tears your life to pieces,” he wrote.
According to him, members of the aristocracy and the world’s wealthiest families often place greater emphasis on upbringing, family background and good breeding than on educational attainment when choosing life partners.
To support his argument, Omokri cited members of the British Royal Family, noting that Queen Elizabeth II did not attend secondary school or university but was privately educated at home. He also pointed out that Princess Diana never attended university, while Queen Camilla is not a university graduate.
While stressing that education remains important, Omokri maintained that it should not outweigh the value of peace and good conduct in marriage.
“Education is important. But without peace, what is important can leave you impotent,” he stated.
He further argued that a woman’s character, decorum and upbringing should take precedence over her educational credentials, insisting that a peaceful home is built more on values and behaviour than on academic achievements.
Omokri’s comments have since generated mixed reactions, with some social media users agreeing that character is the foundation of a successful marriage, while others criticised his comparison as an unfair contrast between education and personal conduct.
