The European Union under the Agents for Citizen-Driven Transformation Programme, ACT, managed by the British Council, has in a workshop encouraged Civil Society Organisations, CSOs to consistently pursue national and human developmental issues across the nation.
Speaking in Lagos during the event, the National Manager of the British Council/ACT Programme, Mr Damilare Babalola informed participants that the cross-regional social-cultural event was to appraise the activities of CSOs and allow them to share cross regional experiences on their work.
He salute the courage of CSOs on their purpose-based agenda despite the challenges faced.
Participants were drawn from Edo and Sokoto states, unfortunately, Sokoto State could not participate.
In a discussion session, participants which were mainly from Edo applauded the organisers of the program and used the opportunity to discuss the challenges faced and possible solutions to ameliorating the challenges.
The discussants said capacity building is about sustaining the goals set and achieved and as well generating fresh target. They said skills and formal education is a veritable tool for capacity building.
According to a group of discussants, “translating capacity building is described as strengthening the structures of the institution”.
Another group opined that, “there’s need to turning personal knowledge to positive and gainful venture and as such, government partnership is required for effective purposeful delivery”.
The stakeholders influence, Non-Governmental Organisations, NGOs, objectives in decision and financial veracity were focused on.
