Suspected burglars have raided a branch of Christ Embassy Church in Edo State, carting away a generator and other high-tech equipment in a midnight operation.
The incident reportedly occurred at the church’s Uwelu worship centre in Egor Local Government Area on Saturday night, leaving members shocked when they arrived for Sunday worship.
A member of the church, who spoke anonymously, said the congregation was devastated after discovering that the generator and other equipment had been stolen.
“We were shocked when we got to church on Sunday to discover our generator is missing,” the source lamented.
According to the member, the situation was particularly embarrassing because the stolen generator was not owned by the church but had been hired by its management committee.
“What made us sad is that the generator was hired by the management committee,” the source said.
“Now we have to explain to the rental guy that the devil made us lose it.”
However, in what provided a measure of comic relief amid the loss, the suspected burglars reportedly failed to find the church’s laptop, which had been kept away from public view.
Despite the sudden loss of its power source, the church proceeded with its worship service as scheduled on Sunday.
The source said the church is now exploring alternative power arrangements following the theft.
The incident has reportedly raised concerns among members over security around the worship centre, with the circumstances surrounding the break-in yet to be fully established.
