The Edo State Police Command has announced the deployment of 7,825 personnel to ensure a safe and peaceful conduct of the 16 August 2025 bye-election.
According to a statement issued on Friday by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Moses Joel Yamu, the officers will be drawn from Zone 5 Headquarters, the Edo State Command, Police Mobile Force (PMF), Special Intervention Squad (SIS), and the Election Monitoring Team from the Force Headquarters in Abuja.
The large-scale operation is intended to secure voting centres before, during, and after the polls, safeguarding voters, electoral officials, and election materials while maintaining law and order.
In addition, the Command has imposed a restriction of movement in all election areas from midnight on Friday, 15 August, until 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, 16 August. Only those on essential duties with valid identification will be exempt.
Commissioner of Police, CP Monday Agbonika, appealed to residents to comply with the directive, warning that violators or those attempting to disrupt the electoral process will face the full weight of the law.
“The Edo State Police Command reiterates its commitment to neutrality, professionalism, and the protection of democratic values during this exercise,” the statement read.
“We urge all eligible voters to come out and exercise their civic responsibility without fear, as adequate arrangements have been made for their safety.”
