The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajudeen on Thursday that those planning to place congratulatory advertisements in print and electronic media should not do so in consideration of the state of the economy.
The Speaker made this known in a statement by his media aide, Musa Abdullahi Krishi.
According to the statement, ”
“This is to inform Honourable Members, constituents, friends, family members, associates, and well-wishers of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, Ph.D that the Speaker appreciates their felicitations ahead of his birthday, which comes up on Sunday, October 1, 2023.
“However, the Speaker wishes to kindly request that those planning to place congratulatory advertisements on the pages of newspapers, TV stations, or any other paid platform(s) for his birthday refrain from doing so, in view of the current situation in the country and in line with prudent management of the meager resources at our disposal.
“Also, those planning to buy gifts, organize receptions, or any form of event to celebrate Mr. Speaker’s birthday are also requested to refrain from such. Rather, funds meant for all the above should be properly channeled for charity.
“Once again, Mr. Speaker appreciates everyone’s well wishes and prayers at this moment.”
