The Chief of the Kegites club (ILYA OVIA) at the University of Benin (UNIBEN) has been shot dead.
The student was shot dead on Monday, 3 April, at about 9pm.
It is unclear if the murder is cult-related; however, the Standard Gazette gathered that the final year student of the Department of Public Administration, Desmond Mayor, was shot dead by unidentified gunmen in Hall 3 Campus.
TSG gathered that the gunmen stormed the hostel and shot sporadically to scare the students before reaching out to their target, shooting and killing him on the spot.
The situation caused fear and commotion as students scampered for safety. The Standard Gazette gathered that the gunmen waited for him to die before unhurriedly walking out of the campus.
Desmond’s body has been deposited in the mortuary at the Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH) in Edo State.
The Police authorities in Edo State are yet to make public statements.
