A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dele Momodu, has expressed his dismay at recent comments made by Senator Adams Oshiomhole regarding Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki and his wife, Betsy Obaseki.
Oshiomhole had made unflattering remarks about the couple, particularly focusing on their childlessness, in response to a statement made by the governor’s wife.
The controversy began when Betsy Obaseki, speaking at the PDP’s campaign flag-off at the Ubiaja Township Stadium in Esan South-East Local Government Area, pointed out that the All Progressives Congress (APC) gubernatorial candidate, Monday Okpebholo, does not have a wife.
She stressed that among all the candidates, only Asue Ighodalo, the PDP’s candidate, has a wife, and urged Edo women to support him.
Oshiomhole, in his reply, criticized Mrs. Obaseki for commenting on others’ marital status, citing her and her husband’s lack of children as a reason she should refrain from such remarks.
In reaction, Dele Momodu took to Instagram to condemn Oshiomhole’s comments, describing them as “shocking” and “mortifying.”
He urged Oshiomhole to publicly apologize for what he called a “horrendous tantrum,” stating that being childless is not a crime and suggesting that Oshiomhole could have made his point without resorting to personal attacks.
“My very dear Egbon Comrade ADAMS, Sir, I have watched this video endlessly and to say I’m shocked and mortified at how low you sank is to put it mildly,” Momodu wrote. “I pray you will find the courage to apologize publicly for this horrendous tantrum. It is never a crime to be childless. You could easily have said your candidate has a wife and children and leave it there but you went too far in this diatribe. Is it more than POLITICS?!!”
