Cleric Arrested Over Burglary at Oshiomhole’s In-Law’s Residence

Apostle Alfred Uyinosa, a Benin-based cleric turned politician, has been arrested and detained by the police in connection with a burglary at the family residence of the late Clara Oshiomhole, wife of former Edo State Governor and Senator, Adams Oshiomhole.

The incident occurred in Ewohimi, Esan South East Local Government Area of Edo State.

Uyinosa’s arrest followed a petition reportedly filed by Senator Oshiomhole after the cleric allegedly broke into the residence of the late Clara, who passed away from breast cancer shortly after her husband was sworn in as governor in 2008.

The burglary reportedly led to the disappearance of valuables worth hundreds of millions of naira.

The cleric had also posted a viral video filmed at the residence, which the family claimed was made without authorisation.

In the video, Uyinosa accused Oshiomhole of abandoning his in-laws after Clara’s death.

His actions drew strong reactions from the family, prompting a petition to the Inspector General of Police, which led to his arrest.

Sources close to the investigation claim that Uyinosa forced his way into the residence when no one was home, an act that sparked the police probe. However, his arrest has ignited controversy on social media, where his supporters launched a campaign for his release, arguing that he was being unfairly persecuted by powerful individuals.

Despite the outcry, the police have vowed to proceed with their investigation. Meanwhile, the Edo State government has remained silent on the matter, while Uyinosa’s family reportedly seeks divine intervention to resolve the issue.

The arrest also comes after Uyinosa had earlier made headlines for a video where he defended Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, against social media critics.

The cleric had laid curses on those criticising the governor for his performance, further entrenching him in the state’s political dynamics.
