…Describe Reports as Falsehoods from Mischief Makers
Two prominent members of the Akwa Ibom State Executive Council have publicly refuted claims circulating on social media suggesting their resignation over Governor Umo Eno’s recent defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The Commissioner for Works and Fire Service, Professor Eno Ibanga, and the Commissioner for Finance, Mr Emem Almond Bob, have both dismissed the rumours as baseless and malicious, aimed at destabilising the State government.
In a statement issued by Evelyn Udobia, the Information Officer at the Ministry of Works, Prof Ibanga reaffirmed his continued commitment to Governor Umo Eno and his administration, labelling the reports as the handiwork of political mischief-makers.
“The attention of the Honourable Commissioner for Works and Fire Service, Prof. Eno Ibanga, has been drawn to a wave of misleading reports circulating in certain quarters of the media, alleging that the Hon Commissioner has resigned from his position following the recent defection of Governor Umo Eno, PhD., from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC),” the statement read in part.
“We wish to firmly and categorically debunk these allegations. Professor Eno Ibanga has not resigned and remains fully committed to his duties as Commissioner for Works and Fire Service.”
Describing the rumours as “a figment of the imagination of its orchestrators”, the statement emphasised that Prof Ibanga’s loyalty to the governor remains “sacrosanct”.
“He continues to work tirelessly in support of the governor’s vision for infrastructural development and good governance in Akwa Ibom State,” it added.
Although Mr Emem Almond Bob has yet to issue an individual statement, government sources have also confirmed that he remains an active member of the executive council and aligned with the governor’s leadership.
The administration of Governor Umo Eno has come under increased scrutiny following his unexpected move from the PDP to the APC, prompting speculation about the political direction of some of his commissioners. However, the recent statements indicate a solidifying of ranks within the cabinet amidst the shifting political landscape.
