Dennis Idahosa, the member representing Ovia Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, on Friday 22 December, 2023 officially declared his intention to run for the governorship position in the upcoming Edo 2024 guber election under the All Progressives Congress (APC).
At his declaration ceremony in Benin City, he promised to prioritize security and tackle the farmer-herder conflict in the state if elected.
Idahosa expressed his concerns about the current administration’s financial management skills regarding borrowing and the potential impact of excessive borrowing on the state’s economy.
He questioned the fiscal responsibility of the current administration and stated that if elected, he would ensure that the state’s finances are managed prudently to avoid economic problems.

During his declaration ceremony, Idahosa led a carnival-like procession through the streets of Benin City, which came to a climax at the APC party secretariat.
He addressed the party faithful and the people of Edo state, assuring them that if given the ticket at the primary and eventually elected, he would prioritize maximum security for all and ensure that farmers can return to their farms without fear of conflict.
Idahosa’s declaration has caused a stir in the state’s political landscape, with many APC supporters and other stakeholders expressing their support for his governorship bid.
If elected, Idahosa has promised to bring his wealth of experience and expertise to bear in ensuring that the people of Edo state enjoy the dividends of democracy.
