The Department of State Services (DSS) has filed fresh terrorism charges against five convicted members of the Ansaru terrorist group over their alleged involvement in attacks on schools in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.
The defendants, comprising two convicted Ansaru commanders and three other convicted members of the group, were arraigned on Wednesday before Justice Salim Ibrahim of the Federal High Court in Abuja.
During the proceedings, the five suspects pleaded not guilty to a six-count charge bordering on terrorism and related offences.
The fresh prosecution marks another move by the DSS to hold members of the terrorist network accountable for attacks targeting educational institutions and communities.
Following their arraignment, the court is expected to continue hearing the case as the Federal Government presses ahead with the prosecution of the suspects under Nigeria’s terrorism laws.
