The All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate for Edo State, Monday Okpebholo, has become a trending topic online after a verbal slip during a recent campaign event.
While addressing a crowd of supporters, Okpebholo inadvertently promised to provide Edo indigenes with “insecurity,” sparking widespread reactions on social media.
The gaffe occurred during a rally where Okpebholo was outlining his plans for the State if elected. Instead of assuring the people of enhanced security measures, he mistakenly said the opposite, much to the surprise of those in attendance.
Former Edo State Governor and prominent APC figure, Adams Oshiomhole, who was standing beside Okpebholo at the time, was quick to react.
Oshiomhole subtly tapped Okpebholo on the shoulder in an apparent attempt to alert him to the error, but the moment had already been caught on camera and quickly went viral.
Addressing the bluder, Okpebholo’s campaign team in a statement on Sunday said the video circulating on Social media is doctored an attempt by the People’s Democratic Party to mislead the people of Edo State.
“Let it be clear: the original video, available for all to see, showcases Senator Monday Okpebholo unequivocally stating that “fighting insecurity”is a key pillar of his five-point agenda. This fake narrative, attempting to make him appear as if he promotes insecurity, is not only absurd but also wicked. Everywhere Okpebholo has spoken—whether at campaign grounds or in one-on-one interviews—he has consistently reiterated that addressing the security challenges facing Edo is one of his top priorities.” The statement added.
