Dr. Ernest Afolabi Umakhihe, an All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship aspirant in the forthcoming Edo election, has expressed his intentions to leverage his wealth of experience and connections to turn the fortunes of the people of Edo State around if he is given the party’s ticket in the primaries and eventually elected as governor.
Dr. Umakhihe, who is a retired civil servant, made this known at his campaign office in Benin City on Sunday after returning from Abuja, where he went to pick his Expression of Interest Form.
Dr. Umakhihe explained that his antecedents span across various sectors of the Nigerian economy, including National Planning and Budgeting, Central Administration, Infrastructure, and Agriculture, where he was the Permanent Secretary of Works and Housing. He further stated that in his position as the Secretary to the National Economic Council (NEC), he interfaced with the 36 governors and the Vice President, giving him a good understanding of the workings of the Nigerian economy and its components.
Dr. Umakhihe also disclosed that during his tenure in the infrastructure ministry, he attracted several projects to Edo State in the three senatorial districts, such as road infrastructure, boreholes, skill acquisition centers, health facilities, school buildings, and empowerment programs for farmers. He also stated that he empowered a lot of farmers and women during his time as the Minister of Agriculture, adding that he had a gender unit focused on agriculture for youths and women, which achieved a lot across the state.
Dr. Umakhihe’s driving force is to touch the lives of average Edolites in the areas of road infrastructure, education, agriculture, women empowerment, skill acquisitions, and every other infrastructural development that the state urgently desires now. He assured the people that he would use his wealth of experience and connections to achieve these goals if elected as governor.
Dr. Umakhihe has bought his expression of interest form and is fully in the race. He urged the party faithful to rally around him for him to be victorious because he is committed to serving them as he has always done. He stated that the reward for hard work is more work and pleaded with Edo people to give him this opportunity to do more work.
