The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has announced that he will no longer support Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, citing allegations of dishonesty.
Wike made this declaration during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, expressing his disappointment in the current Rivers State leader.
The former Rivers State governor accused Fubara of spreading falsehoods about him, though he declined to provide specific details. In a firm tone, Wike stated that his support for Fubara’s political career had come to an end.
Wike, who was instrumental in Fubara’s rise to the governorship, now distances himself from his political protégé in a move that has stunned many within the People’s Democratic Party (PDP). The fallout is seen as a significant development in Rivers State politics.
In the same interview, Wike also turned his attention to the upcoming Edo State governorship election, scheduled for September 21, 2024. He vowed not to support the incumbent Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, or the PDP candidate, Asue Ighodalo, backed by Obaseki.
Wike criticised Obaseki, referring to him as “an ingrate,” highlighting tensions between the two political figures. His refusal to back Ighodalo points to increasing divisions within the PDP as the election date approaches.
