Benin City witnessed a significant political event on Tuesday as Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 General Elections, arrived to rally support for the party’s governorship candidate, Olumide Akpata, and his running mate, Alhaji Yusuf Kadiri, ahead of the 2024 Edo State Governorship election.
The atmosphere in the city was charged with excitement as market women and residents abandoned their daily activities to join the rally, demonstrating their solidarity with the Labour Party.
The rally, which spanned the nooks and crannies of Benin metropolis, was marked by the enthusiastic participation of supporters eager to see a change in the State’s leadership.
Peter Obi, upon his arrival in Benin City, wasted no time in hitting the streets to drum up support for Akpata and Kadiri.
Addressing the crowd, Obi stressed that a Labour Party-led government would bring about unprecedented growth and development in Edo State.
He urged the electorates to vote for the party, stating, “If you want a better country for our children, let’s cast our vote for papa, mama, pikin.”
Human rights activist Aisha Yesufu also addressed the gathering, delivering a message that resonated strongly with the crowd. Her words were met with widespread applause, underscoring the public’s approval of the Labour Party’s vision for Edo State.
Labour Party’s governorship candidate, Olumide Akpata, also took to the stage, expressing confidence in his ability to govern the State effectively.
He declared, “On the 21st of September, Edo will experience its freedom day. Come out, papa, mama, pikin,” urging eligible voters to participate actively in the upcoming election.
As the 2024 Edo gubernatorial election draws nearer, the Labour Party’s campaign continues to gain momentum, with key figures like Peter Obi and Aisha Yesufu leading the charge for change in Edo State.
