Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State has lauded the Edo State Regional Development Plan and the Benin City Master Plan as vital, people-centered blueprints set to guide the state toward long-term prosperity.
Speaking at the Edo @33 Education Summit, held at the Victor Uwaifo Creative Hub in Benin City, the governor emphasized that these documents would serve as a developmental compass, ensuring that the state’s aspirations are realized for generations to come.
The summit, themed: ‘Education: Pathway to a New Edo Nation,’ was a highlight of the Edo @33 celebrations and featured presentations and academic displays from public school students across the state.
These presentations demonstrated the positive impact of the Obaseki administration’s educational reforms over the past eight years.
Reflecting on the progress made, Governor Obaseki stated, “Today is a story of hope; we have shown in 8 years that it is possible if you have the determination. We have been able to transform our systems, rebuild our institutions, and create hope in our people.”
He added that the Masterplan, which will be officially unveiled soon, is more than just a technical document. “It is about us, what we want Edo to be, and our future in every major aspect of our lives.”
The 30-year Masterplan is intended to provide a continuity framework for future administrations, helping to sustain the reforms initiated by the Obaseki government.
“It is not a political document; it is a document which every politician that comes in the future will need to guide them through the policy options that they may need to make,” the governor stressed.
Edo State Deputy Governor, Engr. Marvellous Godwins Omobayo, also addressed the summit, urging the incoming administration to adopt the Masterplan to continue the state’s development.
He emphasized that while the government plays a significant role, citizens must also actively contribute to the successful implementation of the plan.
As the state gears up for the upcoming September 21 gubernatorial election, Omobayo urged residents to support the candidacy of Asue Ighodalo and his running mate, Osarodion Ogie, to ensure the continuity of the Obaseki administration’s achievements.
He described Ighodalo as the candidate best positioned to sustain the investments made over the past seven and a half years.
Dr. Joan Oviawe, the Edo State Commissioner for Education, announced that the state government is exploring ways to integrate the 15 sectors of the Masterplan into the school curriculum.
This initiative aims to familiarize students with the plan, ensuring they grow up with an understanding of its importance to the state’s future.
The summit also featured remarks from the Commissioner for Physical Planning, Housing, Urban and Regional Development, Ms. Isoken Omo, who highlighted the critical role of the Masterplan in ensuring sustainable development across Edo State.
The Edo @33 Education Summit has set the stage for the formal unveiling of the 30-year Masterplan, marking a significant milestone in Edo State’s journey toward a prosperous future.
