The Women’s Wing of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo State has expressed its gratitude to the Omo N’ Oba N’ Edo, Uku Akpolokpolo, Ewuare II, CFR, for his pivotal role in ensuring the peaceful conduct of the September 21st governorship election in the State.
The group commended the Oba for his prayers and leadership, which they believe played a crucial part in averting violence during the highly anticipated election.
During a solidarity visit to the Oba’s Palace on Monday in Benin City, Mrs. Itohan Osahon Edokpolor, the APC Women’s Leader for Edo South Senatorial District, acknowledged the collective relief among mothers in the state.
She noted that, despite fears of potential unrest, no lives were lost in the process, and the election was conducted peacefully.
Edokpolor, who previously served as the Chairperson of Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area, extended special thanks to Oba Ewuare II for preserving Edo’s cultural heritage.
She urged him to continue his prayers for the state in light of recent efforts by some individuals to challenge the victory of Senator Monday Okpebholo, which she maintained as valid and unshakeable.
Other APC women leaders present, including Bola Eweka from Egor LGA and Mrs. Kola Enadiakhe from Oredo LGA, echoed Edokpolor’s sentiments.
They credited the peaceful election to the Oba’s intervention and the prayers of Edo’s ancestors. The women also cautioned against attempts by any influential parties to undermine the will of the people, warning that Edo women would resist such moves.
In response, Chief Stanley Obamwonyi, the Esere of Benin, who represented the Oba, conveyed the monarch’s appreciation to the APC women’s group.
He reaffirmed Oba Ewuare II’s commitment to peace, emphasising that the Royal father’s guidance is for the benefit of all Edo people, regardless of political affiliation.
