The Edo State Football Association has announced that the Friends of Senator Neda Imasuen will lock horns with Edo Ex-Football Internationals in a star-studded novelty match scheduled as the curtain-raiser for the Grand Finale of the 2025 Benin Unity Cup.
The highly anticipated final, set for Sunday, 21 December 2025, will hold at the iconic Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin City, bringing together football enthusiasts, community leaders and supporters from across the state.
The novelty encounter, arranged in honour of the tournament’s Host and Principal Sponsor, Distinguished Senator Neda Imasuen, is designed to set the tone for a memorable day of celebration, unity and sportsmanship. It will precede the main final of the Benin Unity Cup and is expected to electrify the stadium with nostalgia and excitement as Edo-born football greats take to the pitch once again.
According to the statement issued by Mr Fred Newton Erhunmwunse, Chairman of the Edo State Football Association and Chairman of the Local Organising Committee, the match forms part of the Association’s commitment to fostering social cohesion during the festive season.
The Edo FA commended Senator Imasuen for fully sponsoring the novelty game and for his longstanding contributions to grassroots football development and community upliftment in Edo State.
The Association has invited the general public, traditional institutions, football stakeholders and lovers of the game to attend, describing the event as a grand celebration of unity and Edo heritage as the state prepares to close the year with one of its most colourful football showpieces.
