The second phase of the empowerment workshop aimed at equipping women in Edo North senatorial district with the knowledge and tools on standardized value addition and processing method of root and tuber crops in the State ended on Friday 19th, 2021.
The workshop facilitated by the lawmaker representing Edo North senatorial district at the upper legislative chamber of the National Assembly, Senator Francis Alimikhena seeks to empower 100 hundred young women as a means to eradicate unemployment and minimize the risks these women face as a result of unemployment while providing them with opportunity to tap into their full potential through agriculture.
The first phase of the empowerment workshop comprising 70 beneficiaries was done in November last year.
Thirty women were trained in the second phase of the workshop which ended today. At the end of the workshop, beneficiaries were given certificate of attendance and a cash grant to support their agricultural business.
Spokesperson and representative of the lawmaker, Hon.Chris Amedu advised the beneficiaries “to go out there and put into practice what they have learnt from the workshop.”
He explained that the training was designed for the beneficiaries to be self-reliant.
“From what you learnt so far, if you put it into practice, there would be no need for you to start carrying your credentials from one office to another looking for white-collar job.” He furthered.
A beneficiary of the empowerment workshop, Miss Imkho Olere, who spoke with this blog expressed gratitude to Senator Alimikhena for providing them with the opportunity. She said that, she learnt new ways of processing cassava.
“With the knowledge I have ganered from this workshop, I can now processed cassava into flour to make chips and sell.” She stated.
