Edo: Fuel Attendant Meets Tragic End After Being Dragged by Escaping Motorist

A heartbreaking incident happened on Monday, June 15, 2026, along Upper Siluko Road in Benin City, Edo State, where a 21-year-old filling station attendant, Florence, lost her life after a fuel transaction turned fatal.

Reports say a customer had bought fuel but allegedly attempted to drive off without paying. In a bid to stop him, Florence reached into the vehicle. Instead of stopping, the driver reportedly sped off, trapping her hand as he wound up the window and dragged her along the road at high speed.

She was eventually released further down the road, but by then she had sustained severe injuries and was bleeding heavily. A motorcyclist and some bystanders quickly rushed her back to the filling station.

However, it was alleged that instead of immediately prioritizing her medical care, attention was first given to securing the station’s money. This delay reportedly worsened her condition before she was taken to the hospital, where she was confirmed dead.

The incident has since sparked anger and protests from residents and colleagues, who accused the station’s management of negligence. The situation further escalated when the station reportedly resumed operations the next day, leading to another protest that required security intervention to restore order.

When contacted, the Edo State Police command PPRO, (ASP) Eno Nkereuwem Ikoedem confirmed the incident and said the police have begun investigations into the matter, and further details will be communicated once facts surrounding the incident are fully established.
