In a forceful call for deeper governance synergy, Edo lawmaker, Hon. Dr Richard Osaro Edosa, has declared that only a united front between the Executive and Legislature can fast-track development in the State, insisting that Governor Monday Okpebholo’s SHINE Agenda remains the unifying blueprint for Edo’s future.
Speaking on EBS Radio’s flagship programme, Drive O’Clock, Dr Edosa stressed that collaboration, not rivalry, between both arms of government is the engine room of real progress. He said the SHINE framework, which prioritises Safety, Health, Infrastructure, Networks and Education, has provided lawmakers with a clear legislative direction and sense of purpose.
According to him, the Edo State House of Assembly has remained firmly aligned with the Okpebholo-led administration, using sector-specific laws and policy refinements to drive the governor’s development vision. “We work hand in hand with the executive arm because the governor has a clear development plan,” he said. “Since the agenda is about developing Edo, we have no other choice than to support it.”
Beyond policy, the lawmaker offered a rare personal insight into his journey from medicine to politics, describing governance as an extension of his lifelong commitment to saving lives. He said his decision to leave the operating theatre for parliament was rooted in a desire to expand his impact. “As a doctor, our service is to humanity. Politics is also the business of saving lives. If you do it well, people live. If you don’t, people suffer,” he explained.
Dr Edosa, who represents Oredo West Constituency and serves as Deputy Chief Whip of the Edo State House of Assembly, reiterated his commitment to quality representation, pledging to continue using legislation as a tool to solve real-life problems facing his constituents.
“From the operating theatre to the legislature, my mission has always been to save lives, first with a scalpel in my hand, and now with the trust of the people placed in my hands,” he said.
