As political manoeuvring intensifies ahead of the June 2026 local government elections in Edo State, veteran broadcaster and journalist, Victor Acha, has advised the current council chairmen to steer clear of seeking re-election.

In a viral social media post on Tuesday, Acha cautioned the 18 council bosses not to be deceived by the “praise singing” of supporters, insisting that their tenure was circumstantial and unlikely to be renewed.

He argued that the chairmen, who allegedly benefited from the removal of their predecessors, were only “rewarded” with their positions and should not waste resources pursuing fresh mandates.

“None of the 18 council chairmen in Edo State should contest the next local government election,” Acha declared. “They only emerged as circumstantial chairmen. They should keep their money and stop wasting it for a re-election because it won’t work. There are people in the APC that need to be rewarded with chairmanship and councillorship positions.”

While urging the chairmen to focus on delivering projects to the people before their tenure winds down, Acha stressed that no matter their performance, political realities within the All Progressives Congress (APC) would ultimately determine their fate.

“If I were in that position, I would work for the people, keep my salary intact and not contest for re-election. They have been empowered, let others be tested,” he wrote.
