A viral video of some UBA staff sharing the courses they studied at university compared to the professions they currently practice has sparked mixed reactions online.

Many viewers are now questioning the relevance of studying a particular course in Nigerian universities today.

For instance, one UBA staff member, Ayo, revealed that he studied Human Anatomy at the university but now works at UBA as a Data Analyst in the HR department. Another staff member, Millicent, studied Biochemistry but currently works as a Business Analyst and Project Manager at the bank. When asked how she made the career switch, she explained that she took additional online courses through HeelsandTech.

Similarly, Adeniyi shared that he studied Water Resources Management in school but now works in the Compliance, Transaction, and Monitoring Unit of the bank.

Considering that most of them studied courses unrelated to banking yet now work in the banking sector and other diverse professions, the video has raised important questions about the relevance of one’s course of study in Nigerian universities today.

This also serves as a motivation to anyone that irrespective of your course of study in school—especially those who couldn’t get their choice of courses in the university—you can always pursue your dream even after your first degree.
