In response to a spate of kidnappings and violent incidents in the Uwano Kingdom in Etsako East Local Government, Edo State Governor Senator Monday Okpebholo has suspended the traditional ruler of Agenebode, Dr George Oshiapi Egabor, with immediate effect.
Dr Egabor, who holds the title of Okumagbe of Uwano, was suspended indefinitely amid growing public concern over deteriorating security in Estako East Local Government Area. The decision was announced in an official statement released to Uptown Press Nigeria by Fred Itua, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor.
The move comes on the heels of a troubling incident that claimed the life of a Palace Chief, John Ikhamate. Authorities have since arrested Chief Peter Omiogbemhi, the monarch’s secretary, in connection with the matter.
Governor Okpebholo said the suspension was a necessary measure to restore order and protect the lives of residents in the area, pending the outcome of ongoing investigations.
The State government has vowed to pursue all leads in its crackdown on criminality and ensure that those responsible for the recent violence are brought to justice.
