The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Edo State Council, has strongly urged the security agencies in the State, particularly the police, to diligently investigate and uncover the circumstances surrounding the tragic murder of Mr. Hillary Odia.
Mr. Odia, a dedicated journalist working with Independent Television and Radio (ITV/Radio) in Benin City, was brutally assassinated on the night of December 24, 2023, by unidentified gunmen who swiftly escaped into the darkness.
In a joint statement released on Monday in Benin City, a copy of which was made available to Uptown Press, the Chairman, Comrade Festus Alenkhe, and the secretary, Mr. Andy Egbon, expressed their deep condemnation of the shocking and senseless act that took the life of Mr. Odia.
They extended their heartfelt condolences to the management and staff of ITV/Radio on the devastating loss of their colleague.
The NUJ statement, filled with anguish, offered prayers for the peaceful repose of Mr. Odia’s soul while emphasizing the importance of honoring his memory through a comprehensive investigation into his untimely demise.
The union further encouraged Nigerian journalists to delve into the details of this tragic incident and ensure unbiased and extensive investigation of this brutal killing, shedding light on justice for the deceased journalist.
