Ahead of the 2023 general elections, series of defection has hit the Edo state Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Esan West Local Government Area, as former chieftains and members of the party in Iruekpen and Ebhoakhuala communities, at the weekend, switched allegiance to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The series of defection rally which took place in Iruenkpen and Ebhoakhuala communities respectively, was witnessed by the State Chairman of APC, Col. David Imuse (Rtd), and the Esan West LGA Chairman, Elder Godday Okhilu (aka) Jealousy, and other chieftains and leaders of APC, which include, Pastor Sam Odigie, Chief Steven Emua, Hon Monday Ehiaguala, Chief (Dr) Charles Okosun, Mr Jonathan Ibhamawu, Barr, Festus Ehimua and Mrs Ese Okhiria.
The PDP defectors led by Hon. Stanley Imoisili, Mr John, Mrs Okhuoelegbe and Mr Goodluck Okpebho said that, they left the PDP because of the ill-treatment meant on them by the National House of Assembly and State House of Assembly representatives which they laboured to vote into positions of authority.
They further said that, there continued stay in PDP would render them politically irrelevant, and thus rob them of the opportunities to contribute their quota to the development of the LGA, state, and her people, due to the unending war of supremacy between Governor Godwin Obaseki and Chief Dan Orbih led factions. They noted that, they were joining forces with the APC to strengthen the party, and assist it’s Candidates at all level, to win the forthcoming general elections in the local government.
In their separate welcome addresses, the APC state Chairman, Col. David Imuse (Rtd), and the Esan West LGA Chairman of APC, Elder Godday Okhilu (aka) Jealousy, congratulated the defectors for their bold and courageous decisions to join the party, stating, “their decisions has shown their collective zeal to support APC to record a good outing in the forthcoming general elections in Esan West LGA. We wish to assure the new members of equal treatment with old members, because, in our party, the APC, there is no new or old members, we are all the same, irrespective of the time you join the party.”
The APC leaders further appeal to all members to work together in unity of purpose, so that, they can all meet the expectation of winning Esan West LGA, and as such make it a better place for every resident to prosper.
One of the high point of the defections rally was the address by the Esan West APC candidate for Edo state House of Assembly, Mr Jonathan Ibhamawu, who spoke on behalf of APC Presidential and National House of Assembly candidates.
Ibhamawu welcomed the new members and promised to work closely with all of them toward the party’s success in all the elections. He assured them that, they will be treated with due respect and regard which they deserve, and subsequently rewarded for their contributions toward the growth of the party.
