The Edo State Police Command, working with other security agencies, has arrested nine suspects in connection with the alleged killings of two children, a community chief and a driver in different parts of the state.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP Eno Ikoedem, disclosed this in a statement issued in Benin City.
Ikoedem said operatives of the Jattu Police Division arrested 23-year-old Omokhudu Innocent over the alleged killing of two minors in Ayogwiri Community, Etsako West Local Government Area.
The victims were identified as seven-year-old Praise Aloye and six-year-old Oshone Ekhaesomhi.
According to the police spokesperson, the command received a report about the children’s deaths on August 31, prompting officers from the Jattu Division to move to the community.
She said the operatives found the bodies of the two children and deposited them at a mortuary for preservation and further examination.
Ikoedem added that the case had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for investigation.
In another incident, four suspects were arrested over the alleged murder of a community chief identified as Chief Saturday in Ajife Community, Ovia South-West Local Government Area.
The suspects ;Daniel Babatunde, Abraham Mumini, David Michael and Godwin Moses were arrested by Marine Police operatives who responded to the community on September 2.
The four suspects have since been transferred to the Homicide Unit for further investigation.
The police spokesperson also disclosed the arrest of four additional suspects over the alleged killing of a driver in Aduwawa, Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area.
The suspects were identified as Idugie Emmanuel, Odion Bondilum, Sunday Afeaya and Osazee Friday.
According to Ikoedem, the incident followed a minor motor accident which occurred around 10:45 p.m. on September 2, in front of Drucicare Pharmacy in Aduwawa, Benin City.
She explained that an argument reportedly broke out between the drivers involved in the accident. Idugie Emmanuel allegedly called his friends to the scene, where they reportedly assaulted the other driver, whose identity was not immediately known.
The victim was said to have been left unconscious following the attack.
The police command said investigations into the different incidents are ongoing.
