Edo Police Arrest Two Over Alleged ₦150m AIT Equipment Vandalism

The Edo State Police Command has arrested two suspects in connection with the alleged vandalism and theft of transmission equipment belonging to Africa Independent Television (AIT), estimated at ₦150 million.

The suspects, Martins Donatus, 26, and Mohammed Abubakar, 28, were arrested along the Benin–Idogbo Road in Ikhueniro Community, Benin City.

The Commissioner of Police, Edo Command, Patrick Daaor, disclosed this on Tuesday while parading the suspects and other alleged criminals before journalists in Benin City.

Daaor said the Command received a report of vandalism at AIT’s premises along the Benin–Idogbo Road on August 10, 2026, at about 11:39 a.m.

He explained that the suspects were arrested with television master control room transmission equipment valued at approximately ₦150 million.

According to him, the recovered exhibits are now in police custody, while investigations are ongoing to identify and arrest other members of the alleged syndicate.

The commissioner also announced the arrest of two other suspects in connection with two Toyota Highlander Jeeps suspected to have been stolen.

He said operatives attached to the Okhoro Division intercepted the vehicles on August 15, 2026, during a patrol at Five Junction, off Iheya–Uselu Lagos Road, Benin City.

One of the vehicles, he noted, had been confirmed stolen, while a toy gun was recovered from one of the vehicles during a search.

Daaor said the police were investigating the circumstances surrounding the vehicles and working to identify those responsible for the alleged theft.
